The capability of a country’s military aircrafts is a country’s military secret; therefore, in spite of lots speculation at home and abroad, PLA has kept on guarding such secrets closely.
Recently, there have been exposures on the Internet of PLA’s super weapon, H-8 bomber similar to US B2. According to Jane’s Defense weekly, China is developing H-8 stealth bomber that can carry stealth cruise missiles with capability similar to US B2A.
According to speculation it can carry 3 supersonic anti-warship missiles, 4 air-to-ground missiles and 6 medium- and short-range air-to-air missiles able to be a rival to US B2A. It can break air defense at a speed of Mach 1.2. With a range longer than 10,000 km and ability of refueling, it can carry new stealth cruise missile to attack North America.
There is report that maiden flight may be conducted recently as China finalized the design of its 4 Taihang engines in 2008.
However, Pinkov, the founder of Canada’s Kanwa Defense Review said in a interview that China was not able to develop stealth bomber due to lack of technology for powerful engine, stealth materials and coating.
However, a major general in charge of projects at US Air Force Operations Command believes that as the capability of a stealth bomber in bringing the fiercest fire power above the enemy at an instant can be replaced by weapons launched outside of defense area, F-22 fighter, attack drone and hypersonic missile, Russia and other air powers simply have not plans to build any stealth bomber.
